STANDBY BUSTER - CALL 0845 4940038

Standby Buster is a remote-controlled electrical socket that lets you completely switch off appliances overnight - instead of leaving them in standby - so that they use no electricity. Leaving equipment such as screens, photocopiers and printers on standby wastes electricity. This costs money and contributes to harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Standby Buster consists of two parts; an electrical plug socket and a remote control. The socket is simply plugged into any normal electrical outlet and is then switched on, and off, with the remote.

  • Standby Buster is approved by the Energy Saving Trust and consumes less than 1 Watt of Electricity.
  • Using Standby Buster to switch off a typical arrangement of equipment will save approximately 570kWh of electricity over the course of the year. Generating this electricity would typically produce 245kg of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). At today's average rage of 12p per kWh that equates to over £60 a year.
  • Each remote offers on/off control of four zones that can be determined by you to manage any number of Standby Buster sockets.

What's great about Standby Buster?
The handy remote gives you direct control over your electrical appliances. Standby Buster is approved by the Energy Saving Trust (EST), guaranteeing consumers that the product saves energy and therefore reduces carbon emissions.

Who are EST?
The Energy Saving Trust (EST) is a non-profit organisation that provides free impartial advice to the public and businesses. The 'energy saving recommended' logo means that a product has met strict criteria to ensure it delivers a real energy saving benefit, runs efficiently and helps reduce carbon emissions. The test criteria is set out by EST with advice from industry experts.

Is Standby Buster approved for use in the UK?
Standby Buster conforms to all relevant British Standards (BSI) for use in the UK. The product also complies with CE Euroopean Conformity and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives.

Does Standby Buster work with anything?
Standby Buster will work with any mains powered product, irrespective of whether it has a standby function. Standby Buster does not need line of sight to operate. This means it can be plugged in to your hard-to-reach wall sockets which can then be controlled with ease.

How many appliances can be connected to each Standby Buster socket?
The Standby Buster can have multiple devices connected to it, typically by using a conventional extension block (not included). The socket is rated at 3.65kW.

What are remote zones?
The Standby Buster remote control has four pairs of ON/OFF buttons. Each of these pairs represents a zone and any number of Standby Buster sockets can be grouped into a zone. Your zones might be by room (living room, office and bedroom) or by function (home entertainment, lighting and computer equipment). There is also an "All Off" button.

Why do appliances have a standby mode?
The reason is generally convenience. Standby puts appliances into a state in which they consume less electricity than when they are on and are ready to be activated by using a remote control or pressing a button. The energy consumed in this state is wasted. The convenience of switching on with a remote control is retained by using a Standby Buster.

Why is standby a bad thing?
Many appliances have a standby mode - you may think you have switched the appliance off but it is still using electricity to stay in a standby state that is readily available for use. This unnecessary electricity consumption costs money and directly contributes to increased carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, which are harmful to the environment.
