Card decks from Response DirectResponse Direct Publishing, based in Riverside House, SW18 are ‘consumer lead generation and collaborative marketing’ specialists who have generated upwards of 4 million consumer enquiries already this year. They do it through direct media mail shots, including card decks, response catalogues and travel supplements.

They have considerable experience in this very competitive marketplace and employ a staff of nearly 30, yet they decided to take advantage of southlondon.biz’s Skills on Site service. Their two and a half hour session concentrated on face-to-face presentation skills. It covered areas like preparing for a presentation, creating a first impression, overcoming nerves, working with slides and handouts and ‘closing the deal’.

Peter WebbPeter Webb, who started out as an Art director and set up RDP with two other directors and two trade partners almost 15 years ago, said the exercise , “encouraged the newer members of the sales team, allowing them to go after new business and has also helped other internal departments when presenting internally.”

RDP has ambitious plans for the future. They are launching five new sites this year and have invested heavily in sites with clever ‘hurdles’ that the consumer has to negotiate in order to receive free information packs. These requirements ensure that responses are all genuine enquiries. And, as far as companies are concerned, each enquiry has a fixed cost, agreed in advance – it could be a ‘test’ run of 50,000 or a typical circulation of 400,000.

The really big new enterprise for 2006 is The Red Pack – a mail shot for the Royal Mail that is targeted at 500,000 households.
