Mary Waring of Direct Mortgage Associates has just been nominated by the Financial Times Adviser as Best New Mortgage Adviser of the year. This signals yet another successful stage in Mary’s business life and also demonstrates how by building on strengths it is possible to re-invent one’s career when appropriate.

After working as a chartered accountant for one of the top four practices in the City for a number of years Mary Waring decided approximately ten years ago that she no longer wanted to spend so much time commuting, and would prefer to work locally. Subsequent to this decision she worked for several years as a Finance Director in Surrey. When in 2004 she decided to end that stage of her career, she was Finance Director for a property company in Weybridge with responsibility for raising millions of £s of funding for property acquisition.

Mary then decided it was time to become self employed, and that mortgage advice was an area in which she could offer valuable expertise to her clients. She successfully passed the exams necessary to qualify her as a mortgage adviser and set up her business.

Concerned about building up her client base as quickly as possible, Mary approached southlondon.biz in March 2005 and had her first session with Barbara Harding. Mary feels that Barbara helped her considerably in looking at which groups to market, how to market to them and specifically in developing her marketing communication with them She feels that there was one specific mailshot which benefited considerably from Barbara’s input with impressive results!

In May 2006 Mary was awarded both Newly-Qualified Mortgage !FA/Whole of Market Adviser and Overall Mortgage !FA/Whole of Market Adviser of the year in a ceremony that took place at Quaglinos in London’s West End.
